The executable process called jre.exe is a component of the software Java Runtime Environment or JRE, also Java, or Java 2 Platform Standard Edition, which is developed by Sun Microsystems. Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is a type of browser add-on and plug-in software that is designed to provide libraries, Java Virtual Machine, and other components, which are able to run applications and applets that are written in or related to Java programming language. This software also includes two key development technologies, which are Java Plug-in, which is used to allow applets to run in web browsers, and Java Web Start, which is for the deployment of stand-alone applications over a network. The file, which is jre.exe, is added onto the computer, registers itself into a Windows registry, stores on a file folder location, which is usually Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Windows ME.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. jre.exe. is used by Java or Java Runtime Environment, If you shut down jre.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop jre.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Java or Java Runtime Environment, from your system.
