The executable igfxcfg.exe provides a process called igfxcfg Module. This is typically from the software Intel Common User Interface, and is installed through the drivers for Intel onboard cards, specifically video cards. The file executes a process that allows clients to change and control the settings of their Intel video cards. The file is generally left running by users as they find it useful, and also because it has not been found to be a security risk. It also does not generally cause any system errors. Problems only usually occur when the driver for the video cards is found to be incompatible with the OS upgrades installed by the user. A system restore would often solve the problem. Other than this minor issue, no other system issues have been reported or cited by users. The process’ file size usually ranges from 384 KB to 488 KB. Its usual file path is C:\Windows\System 32\igfxcfg.exe.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. igfxcfg.exe. is used by igfxcfg Module, If you shut down igfxcfg.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop igfxcfg.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is igfxcfg Module, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as igfxcfg Module, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
