What is  histkill.exe

The histkill.exe file is a process that is part of the application HistoryKill distributed and created by SwankSoft Technologies, Inc. This process removes or deletes all surfing paths that reflect user browsing habits. It removes detailed history files, cookies, caches and droplist URLs navigated recently. The process works on Windows 95, 98, NT/ME, 2000 and XP systems. The histkill.exe file overwrites the surfing history securely and automatically and makes its recovery impossible once the software is installed. It blocks pop ups and other advertisements. It features Boss Key that hides IM and other accessed Web browser windows immediately. The process supports various Web browsers including SBC, AOL, Yahoo, MSN and Mozilla Firefox. It removes Auto Complete History. It easily eases Windows index.dat files from the system. It ensures privacy by completely removing the Run menu list. Its Auto Kill mechanism clears the History once the user closes the browser. The histkill.exe process overwrites data randomly up to 7 times for recovery to be impossible. It also removes temporary files.

How can I stop histkill.exe and should I?

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. histkill.exe. is used by HistoryKill, If you shut down histkill.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop histkill.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is HistoryKill, from your system.
