The file gen_dock.dll is a process that belongs to software Winamp, which is skinnable, multi-format media player. Winamp is freeware/ shareware, is extensible with plugins and skins, and is noted for its media library, playlist and graphical sound visualization features. This application supports a wide variety of contemporary and specialized music file formats that include MIDI, MPEG-1 audio layers 1 and 2, MOD, FLAC, WAV, M4A, Windows Media Audio, and OGG Vorbis. Winamp can play and import music from audio CDs, optionally from CD-text, and can burn music to CDs. It provides extendable support for portable media players and mass storage devices, including Microsoft PlayForSure and ActiveSync, and syncs unprotected music to the iPod. Winamp supports many types of streaming media like XM Satellite radio, AOL video, Internet radio, Internet television, podcasts, and RSS media feeds. The functionality of Winamp can be extended through the use of plugins that are available from the Winamp site.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. gen_dock.dll. is used by Winamp, If you shut down gen_dock.dll, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop gen_dock.dll, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Winamp, from your system.
