The firewallgui.exe file is the process called PC Tools Firewall GUI that is used by the application PC Tools Firewall Plus created by PC Tools. This program uses an icon on the taskbar usually beside the clock. The firewallgui.exe file has a digital signature from PC Tools with certificate issued by VeriSign Time Stamping Services. It is a non-system process. It can monitor programs, control applications and hide itself. This process automatically starts on running processes, the local machine for autorun registry entries, current user autorun registry entries, Roaming Start Menu\Programs\Startup, Start Menu\Programs\Startup or Current user startup startmenu. PC Tools Firewall Plus Free Edition serves as personal firewall for Windows that safeguards your computer from intruders and hackers. This firewall controls your network traffic by monitoring the programs connected to the network. It can block backdoors, keyloggers and Trojans that steal private information and damage the computer.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. firewallgui.exe. is used by PC Tools Firewall Plus, If you shut down firewallgui.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop firewallgui.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is PC Tools Firewall Plus, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as PC Tools Firewall Plus, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
