The fileex.exe file is the process called File-Ex File Dialog Extensions that is used by the application File-Ex developed by Cottonwood Software. The location of this file is in the C:\Program Files subfolder. The size of this file is 212,992 bytes. The fileex.exe process can change or control the activities of other applications. There is no visible window for this process. It runs when you boot Windows. The registry key for this process is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders. You can access the program File-Ex on the Windows Control Panel. File-Ex enhances the File Save and File Open dialogs for most Windows applications. It helps save time searching for files through the “recently used” and “favorite” folders and files. The program can enlarge the dialog boxes for better view. You can sort files by date, type, size or name. It has file management buttons for faster management of files.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. fileex.exe. is used by File-Ex, If you shut down fileex.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop fileex.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is File-Ex, from your system.
