The controld.exe file is an executable process implemented into the system by the firmware components, driver software utilities and device management applications that are distributed with WatchGuard Firebox routers, which are network devices developed for Windows-based client and server computers. The controld.exe file is specifically integrated into the system as one of the EXE component processes of the WatchGuard System Manager software, which is an application deployed as a firewall monitoring and management program bundled into the firmware resources and device driver utilities of these WatchGuard Firebox routers. The controld.exe process particularly serves as the executable program dispatcher file of one of the WatchGuard WSEP/IPS/SPAMBlocker server-side agents integrated into the WatchGuard router firmware resources and device driver software utilities as program components of these network devices and built-in firewall applications.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. controld.exe. is used by WatchGuard System Manager and WatchGuard WSEP/IPS/SPAMBlocker Server-Side Agent, If you shut down controld.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop controld.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is WatchGuard System Manager and WatchGuard WSEP/IPS/SPAMBlocker Server-Side Agent, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as WatchGuard System Manager and WatchGuard WSEP/IPS/SPAMBlocker Server-Side Agent, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
