What is  cmon.exe

The cmon.exe process is an executable file that has been flagged by the system security tools of many users as a malicious program associated with a P2P worm that is known to infect unprotected Windows-based systems. These same users reported that the cmon.exe process is integrated with the capability to automatically initialize during system startup because of certain keys and entries that the cmon.exe process is said to create and inject into the Windows System Registry upon its successful placement and activation in the system. These users also state that the cmon.exe process continues to operate as a hidden background process upon its initialization, in order to implement its self-replicating functionalities. This means these users claim that the cmon.exe process creates copies of itself and places these duplicates in various locations across the infected Windows-based computer. These users also claim that the cmon.exe process tries to exploit unencrypted TCP/IP network ports of the infected system, in order to email copies of itself to the email and IM (Instant Messaging) contact list of the user.
