The chkdsk.dll file has been reported by many users as a malicious program that has been flagged by their system security tools as a component or a variant of the AdWare.Win32.PurityScan.en program, which is a family of obtrusive adware applications known to infect Windows-based systems. Other users claim that the chkdsk.dll file is flagged by their own system security applications as a component or variant of the ADW_PURITYSCN.AE family of adware programs, or the ADW_PURITYSCA.Y application, which is another family of obtrusive adware programs with spyware-like functionalities. These users state that the chkdsk.dll file is capable of automatically initializing during system startup and can continue to operate as a hidden background process during system runtime, in order to exploit system vulnerabilities like unprotected TCP/IP network ports that it can use to contact remote servers that are managed by its authors, and these same users claim that the chkdsk.dll file displays pop-up advertising banners while users are browsing the Internet, and these ads are said to be relevant to the content of their visited websites, bookmarked Web pages and search engine queries, most likely because, according to these users, the chkdsk.dll file may have already transmitted their Internet surfing information and private user details to those remote servers for processing.
