The executable process CdProxy Application or cdproxyserv.exe is a background application for Sony-Bmg Album and most audio CDs from Sony BMG. This process is essential in XCP, a software device from Sony BMG that protects and manages the digital rights that comes along every authenticated audio CD from the company. With cdproxyserv.exe, the number of copies that can be made in each audio file is controlled. This background process also prohibits computes from copying the protected audio files from any other devices such as IPods. This file, when running, is not visible, and is not a core component of Windows. The file is located within the Windows folder of the computer's local drive. Cdproxyserv.exe is automatically installed to the computer when a copyrighted audio CD is inserted and played.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. cdproxyserv.exe. is used by Sony-Bmg Album, If you shut down cdproxyserv.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
