The capshook.exe file is a process called as CapsAndNumKeyNotify, which is a component of Super Hybrid Engine, an advanced technology program created by ASUS for ASUS laptops and notebooks. It is also has a digital signature from ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Moreover, the file capshook.exe runs in the background, and is executed by asusservice.exe, which pertains to the AsusService, a component of the Asus Eee ACPI or hotkey service. In other words, CapsAndNumKeyNotify or capshook.exe, is associated with ASUS ATK Hotkey utilities that allow a user to control or use the special function keys. Super Hybrid Engine has a switcher that is located on the upper part of the keyboard of ASUS laptops. This switcher enables a user to quickly cycle the power-saving settings or modes of auto-power saving, power saving, high performance and super performance, in order to save some battery life when using an ASUS laptop with this technology built in it. Since the file capshook.exe is a part of the hotkey utilities, saving power or battery is more accessible and quicker.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. capshook.exe. is used by Super Hybrid Engine, If you shut down capshook.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop capshook.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Super Hybrid Engine, from your system.

Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
