Most reports from anti-virus programs classify awtst.dll file as malware. Symantec identifies this file as Trojan.Vundo.B. This DLL file is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. Known sizes for this file include 281,172 bytes, 577,588 bytes with 7% occurrence and 40 other variants. This dynamically loaded or linked file is a BHO or browser helper object that loads automatically when the Internet browser starts. Malware such as adware and spyware often use BHOs in their malicious activities because personal firewalls usually do not block these BHOs because the firewall identifies the BHO as the browser itself. IDs associated with this BHO include 00DBDAC8-4691-4797-8E6A-7C6AB89BC441, B313D637-F405-4052-AC37-E2119AB3C8F8 and 81 other variants. This application is not visible to the user. It appears as unknown file on Windows folder. It can monitor and manipulate other applications. Automatic startup locations for this process include Explorer BHOs, authentication packages, Winlogon notification, Explorer ShellExecuteHooks and local machine for autorun registry entries.
