what is a .efq file?

An Ensoniq SQ1/SQ2/KS-32 file is saved with digital audio data compression and encoding standards implemented for some electronic keyboards. The content of an Ensoniq SQ1/SQ2/KS-32 file is stored in the EFQ format, and this file is appended with the .efq extension. The pieces of digital data that can be stored in an EFQ file includes settings integrated into a supported electronic MIDI keyboard. Other content that can be stored in an EFQ file may include musical notations, pitch and tone values associated to a particular set of features implemented in the compatible electronic MIDI keyboard. The Ensoniq SQ1 and SQ2 digital synthesizers were released in the 1990s, and these devices were implemented with support for these EFQ files. Another digital workstation keyboard model, which was also released in the 1990s and integrated with specifications and standards to support the usage of these EFQ files, is the Ensoniq KS-32 synthesizer. Newer models of electronic MIDI keyboards can now be connected and synched with computers running on widely used operating systems like Microsoft Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.

VFX-SD is a professional quality sequencer capacitating 25,000 to 75,000 notes, and can hold up to 60 sequences and songs. The sequencer's operating system is loaded into the floppy disk from the RAM memory of the instrument, allowing easy loading of Ensoniq's new operating system. The VFX-SD's sequencer is versatile indeed because its floppy disk can also be used in storing whole songs, single sequence, single presets, 20-presets bank, single sounds, sets of 6 or sets of 30 sounds, and whole banks (60 seconds). Although it is not compatible with MS-DOS, niche industry sprang up to accommodate the needs of the musicians. The software has also a new drum and percussion sounds that includes 24 drum kits, totally compatible with the original VFX sound library. a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .efq files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .efq. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
