The file dfx.exe belongs to software DFX, which is audio enhancer program by Power Technology. It enhances music listening experience by improving the quality of MP3, Windows Media, Internet radio, and other music files. It provides 3D surround sound, higher fidelity, booming bass and sound clarity that can transform the sound of the PC into that of a good stereo system. The exceptional sound quality provided by DFX is due to audio processing that employs 32-bit floating-point precision that yields professional audio quality. This application has a feature called Explore that lets the user access music videos and view song lyrics directly from the user interface. It enhances the sound of Web sites, Internet radio, video chats, and other programs from the Internet. DFX employs re-dithering of audio signals for Internet audio playbacks that currently support only 16-bit audio playback. Re-dithering allows a dynamic range in the playback signal that actually exceeds the theoretical limit of a 16-bit playback system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. dfx.exe. is used by DFX, If you shut down dfx.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop dfx.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is DFX, from your system.
