My issues are 1)frequent & sudden shut down due Kernel Mode Trap, 2)popping up of frequent ERROR messages while online and 3)erratic typing. My seller says that they are due to PIRATED Windows 8 Pro. Kindly do advise.

Hi Hamidulla,

Sorry to hear you are having all these problems. If you recently purchased this PC, you should probably return it to the seller and get a replacement or have the seller sort out these problems for you. If it\'s indeed a pirated copy of Windows 8, then I\'m afraid we can do much here.

The \"Kernel Mode Trap\" generally occurs due to hardware failure or because of installation of inappropriate or incompatible device drivers. You could restart your computer in the Windows safe mode and try uninstalling and/or reinstalling the problematic drivers.

Better yet, I would recommend backing up all your data, formatting your hard drive and carrying out a fresh, clean install of Windows 8, followed by the installation of the latest Windows 8 drivers. This will resolve all your problems and give you a fresh start.

Good luck,

James

Thanks a million for your valuable suggestion Dear James. I am sorry but yes, it is indeed a pirated copy. It is not even a month since I bought the PC, a Toshiba Satellite, which has come WITHOUT a Preinstalled OS. I think I have committed a grave blunder to have purchased a system without a preinstalled OS. On lodging a complaint, the seller is taking shelter under the pretext of a pirated copy and I am caught between the devil and the deep sea. Yet I wonder how come so many users across the globe having authentic Win 8 Pro are complaining about the BSOD. And what’s the issue with the erratic typing, God only knows where the cursor lands up even when the typing is only with the fingers without touching the Touchpad? Sometimes a part of the typed text or the whole of it is disappearing from the screen forcing to ‘UnDo’, and when I try to save a text (Ctrl+S), the entire typed text is getting highlighted. It is completely awful Dear James. Leave aside the BSOD, I firmly believe that at least the Keyboard appears to be faulty, a hardware conflict. But unfortunately, for every glitch, be it software or hardware, the seller has a safe shelter of “pirated copy”. Nevertheless Dear James, I intend to go ahead with your advice despite a pirated copy. And please, do not tell me to go in for an authentic Win 8 Pro which I cannot afford to. With warm regards. And thanks to ReviverSoft too. Hamidulla.

By the way, my advice to all those who are planning to buy a PC, NEVER EVER, repeat, NEVER EVER go in for the one that comes WITHOUT an Operating System PREINSTALLED. Even if you get hold on to one with a preinstalled OS, please ensure that it is accompanied with a valid License Key.

Hi Hamidulla. I\'m sorry to hear about your situation. It is definitely advisable to get a Windows OS pre-installed when buying a new computer. In any case, a clean re-install of Win 8 as suggested above should help resolve most problems. As for the hardware problems, I\'m afraid you\'ll have to work something out with the seller or contact Toshiba about it. You could even consider formatting the entire drive and sending the laptop back in its original condition (without the OS). Good luck, James

Hi Hamidulla,

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP error message will occur when an Intel CPU created a trap, and the kernel did not catch the trap.

The trap can either be bound, where the kernel is not permitted to catch it, or a double fault, where simultaneous faults result in system failure.

You can follow the below steps to solve this problem:

1. Remove any new hardware
Adding new hardware can cause this error to occur if the hardware is defective, the driver is defective or the hardware is not compatible with the computer.
To check if this is the case, turn off the computer, remove the new hardware you added to the computer and restart the computer to see if the error occurs again.
If it does not, you may need to get a new piece of hardware.
You can also try downloading the latest driver software from the manufacturer website and install that driver software instead of the software that came with the hardware.
Also, make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements needed to use the new piece of hardware.

2. Fix any overclocked settings
If your computer is utilizing an overclocked processor (a processor that is set to run at a speed higher than the rated specification), access the motherboard's BIOS and set the processor to the default speed setting. Restart to the computer to see if this resolves the error.

3. Test for defective memory
Check for defective system memory by running a memory diagnostic utility. If the diagnostic reveals a memory chip that is bad, replace the memory chip.

Windows 8 has a Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool that can be accessed by clicking on the Start Button and typing "memory" in the run line.
Running this command opens the Memory Diagnostics Tool with two options: "Restart now and check for problems" or "Check for problems the next time I start my computer." Choosing either of these options runs the computer through a memory test the next time it starts up.

I hope this works.

Regards,
Lokesh
