Hi Esther,

By default, Windows 8 doesn't provide any option to disable lock screen but you can use following 2 methods to disable it:
  • METHOD 1: Using Group Policy Editor
  • METHOD 2: Using Registry Editor
METHOD 1: Using Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc)

1. Press "WIN+R" key combination to launch RUN dialog box then type gpedit.msc and press Enter. It'll open Group Policy Editor.

2. Now go to:Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Control Panel -> Personalization
3. In right-side pane, double-click on "Do not display the lock screen" option and set its value to "Enabled".

That's it. It'll immediately disable lock screen in Windows 8. If you want to enable lock screen again, set the value to Not configured.

METHOD 2: Using Registry Editor (regedit)If you don't want to use Group Policy Editor or can't use it, you can do the same thing using Registry Editor. Just follow these simple steps:

1. Press "WIN+R" key combination to launch RUN dialog box then type regedit and press Enter. It'll open Registry Editor.
2. Now go to following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\PersonalizationIf the above key doesn't exist, you'll need to create it manually.
3. Select Personalization key and in right-side pane, create a new DWORD NoLockScreen and set its value to 1.

4. Close Registry Editor and log off or restart Windows to take effect. It'll completely turn off lock screen.
If you want to restore lock screen in future, just delete the DWORD or set its value to 0.

There is another way of doing that also.

Actually the Lock Screen automatically appears because of a built-in functionality in Windows. There is a feature in Windows which shows the Lock Screen automatically as soon as your computer goes into idle mode. You just need to turn that feature off to permanently get rid of the Lock Screen.

1. Right-click on Desktop and select Personalize option. It'll open Desktop Personalization window. Now click on Screen Saver icon present at the bottom-right corner of the window. It'll open "Screen Saver Settings" window.
2. Once you open "Screen Saver Settings" window, uncheck "On resume, display logon screen" option.

3. Apply the changes and now you'll no longer see the Lock Screen randomly appearing in your system.

You can also follow the steps given below if you still see the Lock Screen:
1. Open Power Options from Control Panel.
2. Now click on "Choose when to turn off the display" link given in left-side pane.
3.  Now set all given options to Never and save changes.

Now your computer should not turn the display off automatically and you should not get the Lock Screen.

I hope I have given you enough solutions for your issue and you will be able to get rid of lock screen now.

Regards,
Lokesh

Hi Esther, Mark\'s right about the Power Plan. It is very likely that your computer has been configured to go to Sleep after a specified interval of time. For eg: After 15 mins of inactivity I\'d recommend reading through HP\'s article on managing your Power Plan on Windows 8: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03397760 Hope you\'re able to sort this out. Hi Esther, The reason that your computer is going to sleep is because of the way your current \'Power Plan\' settings are configured for your computer. You may be currently using the default settings. You can change your Power Plan settings by going to the Control Panel and then searching for \'Power\'. Then select the \'Edit power plan\' option. You should then be in the area where you configure when your computer goes to sleep. You can change how it behaves when plugged in and when on battery. For a more details explanation you can visit our blog post below: http://www.reviversoft.com/blog/2014/04/how-to-change-when-your-computer-goes-to-sleep/ Hope that helps! Mark

I kept getting the blue screen with Driver Power State Failure error message and then my computer would restart. I found your product and it did not happen any more. I just purchased an anti-virus (kaspersky) and now it is doing it again. It is so frustrating. My computer is only 6 months old. It is a Asus desktop.
