Hi Sai,

SPF files are created in the printer spooler on your computer when you send documents for printing and are used to store the contents of the documents. You may also see SHD files that contain details for the print job. Both these files are stored in the "Printers" spooler folder. These files should be deleted automatically after your documents are printed, but in your case (without a printer) they just stay there.

Here's how you can delete these files:

1. Click the "Start" button, type "cmd" in the Search box and press "Enter" to launch the Command Prompt utility.

2. Type "net stop spooler" in the Command Prompt and press "Enter" to stop the Spooler service.

Step 3

3. Type "del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\*.shd" and press "Enter" to delete all SHD files in the Printers folder.

Step 4

4. Type "del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\*.spl" and press "Enter" to delete all SPL files in the Printers folder.

Step 5

5. Type "net start spooler" and press "Enter" to start the Spooler service.

Hope this helps.

James

Hi Sai,

.SHD and .SPL files are the only file types that exist in the printer spooler folder. They contain information about the print jobs.

You don't really have to worry about these files too much because they are automatically removed after the print jobs are complete. You can also manually remove these files.

Hi James,

For each print job there are two spool files generated by the Windows spooler. One file with the .SHD extension for job settings, and one with the .SPL extension for the drawing commands.

Thanks.
