Hi Jamini,

Windows 8.1 is only a few months old and there are quite a few devices that aren\'t fully compatible yet. Hardware manufacturers have only started releasing Win 8.1 compatible drivers. Note that some Windows 8 drivers may not work properly on Windows 8.1

I must also point out that your Vaio laptop was originally designed for Windows 7. This is all the more reason why you need to wait for official Win 8.1 drivers from Sony to use on your laptop.

For the time being, I would recommend doing a clean install of Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 on your laptop and running the VAIO Win8 upgrade utility below:

http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/519785

This will help you install the necessary apps and drivers for Windows 8.

Good luck!

James

Hi James, Thanks a ton. Quite frustrating to be running around without proper drivers.. Shouldn\'t have jumped into Win 8 in the first place esp. when there are issues with Win 8 itself for which we need to depend on guys like you.. from MS forum... Hope to be in touch, James. Jamini

No worries, glad I could help! I would recommend using Windows 8 for now with the VAIO Win 8 upgrade utility. As for Windows 8.1, it would be wise to wait for a Service Pack or Update from Microsoft. Hopefully, Sony readies a new set of 8.1 compatible drivers by then. Happy computing, James

Hi Jamini,

Drivers are updated occasionally. Windows can update them automatically, or you can install the updated drivers yourself.

To check that automatic updating is on

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
  2. Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Windows Update.
  3. Tap or click Choose how updates get installed.
  4. Under Important updates, choose Install updates automatically (recommended).

To manually install a driver

You must be signed in as an administrator to follow these steps.
  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then clickSearch.)
  2. Enter Device Manager in the search box, and tap or click Device Manager.
  3. In the list of hardware categories, double-tap or double-click the category your device is in and then double-tap or double-click the device you want. For example, to see your video card, tap or click Display adapters, and then double-tap or double-click the video card name.
  4. Tap or click the Driver tab, tap or click Update Driver, and then follow the instructions. Administrator permission required You might be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.
I hope this helps.

Regards,
Lokesh

I kept getting the blue screen with Driver Power State Failure error message and then my computer would restart. I found your product and it did not happen any more. I just purchased an anti-virus (kaspersky) and now it is doing it again. It is so frustrating. My computer is only 6 months old. It is a Asus desktop.
