The file wscntfy.exe is the executable for Windows Security Center Notification Application. The file displays an icon on your System Tray. The file serves as a notifier, to let you know if any of the following applications might render your system vulnerable to malicious attacks: Windows Updates, Antivirus software, or Firewall settings. Basically, the file runs in the background by default, so it can give you alerts whenever it detects something that could put your system at risk, but only with regards to the three mentioned applications. The application is generally only for Windows XP. It was introduced in XP Service Pack2. Users can find the file in the path C:\Windows\System 32\wscntfy.exe. There were a number of users’ reports where the file was found to be a worm or some other malicious software. Since the file is generally for Windows XP SP2, if you do not have this Windows version on your PC; and the file is located directly in the Windows directory, i.e. C:\Windows\wscntfy.exe, there is a high possibility that this could be a malicious file that posed as the legitimate Windows system file.
