Many user reports claimed that the winspool.exe process is a malicious application associated with the AUTOTROJ-C program, which is a family of Trojans comprised of undesirable malware applications. The winspool.exe process has been reported to be disguised as a valid Windows system process that corresponds to a legitimate Windows system update component from Windows Update, in order to trick users into downloading and activating the winspool.exe file in their Windows-based systems. The winspool.exe process, upon its execution in the system, then proceeds, as stated by some users, to create keys and entries that it injects into the Windows System Registry, and these registry keys and entries are said to allow the winspool.exe process to automatically initialize during system startup. Camouflaged as System Update and System Update2, the winspool.exe process has been reported to operate in the background without user consent, in order to search for vulnerable TCP/IP network ports that it can exploit and use for downloading more malware programs unto the system, and for uploading to predesignated Web servers the data and Internet browsing information it can collect from the infected system and its default Web browser.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. winspool.exe. is used by AUTOTROJ-C Trojan, If you shut down winspool.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop winspool.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is AUTOTROJ-C Trojan, from your system.
