Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) also known as wins.exe process is the Microsoft Network Basic Input/output System Name Service implementation. The NetBIOS Name Service provides resolution on a TCP/IP network on the NetBIOS. This program provides a database for querying and registering on NetBIOS name mappings to Ipv addresses and the database is distributed. This program is to provide names resolutions of NETBIOS in IP/TCP which is routed and which have multiple subnets. With wins.exe process, the request for name resolution is provide from the Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) server. After the WINS can resolve the name, the wins.exe will then after send the Ipv4 address directly to the client. Wins.exe reduces the broadcast traffic.Usually networks have only one WINS server and each network should be in Pull/push replication. WINS database will be updated through a pull request from other WINS server while push replication will notify other WINS servers to indicate the duplication regarding their database's entries with altered numbers.
