The windrvnt.sys process is a system driver file that is used and referenced by the Folder Lock application. This software is classified as a Windows program developed with a set of functions for hiding, locking and encrypting folders with important documents and confidential files. The windrvnt.sys file is placed in the system upon the installation of the Folder Lock software, which also means the windrvnt.sys process is integrated into the installer distribution packages of the Folder Lock program. Whenever Windows Explorer contains a folder that has been locked, hidden or encrypted by the user with the Folder Lock program, the Folder Lock software activates some of its EXE program files, and these executable application resources begin to reference other modular DLL files and call on other SYS driver utilities, one of which is the windrvnt.sys process, in order to implement the folder encryption features of the Folder Lock program into the system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. windrvnt.sys. is used by Folder Lock, If you shut down windrvnt.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop windrvnt.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Folder Lock, from your system.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Folder Lock, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
