The tvstray.exe file is a Windows process that is called by the service name TOSHIBA Virtual Sound Taskbar Module, and runs in a Microsoft Windows operating system (OS) computer, a part of the application TOSHIBA Virtual Sound, which is developed by Toshiba Corporation. Toshiba Virtual Sound is pre-installed on Toshiba laptops and notebooks, and used to change the audio or sound settings, although the built-in speaker is in the default setting. With this program, a user is also able to select external speaker, as well as open or closed type headphone. The menu options include the preset setting of bass, stereo, and clarity, but can be also modified as desired by the user through the Start menu, then Programs, choose Toshiba, and Utilities where the Toshiba Virtual Sound program is found. When this software is installed, the tvstray.exe file is also downloaded, stored on a particular folder location, mostly in C:\Program Files, and starts to run in the background, once the program that houses it is launched.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. tvstray.exe. is used by  TOSHIBA Virtual Sound, If you shut down tvstray.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop tvstray.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is  TOSHIBA Virtual Sound, from your system.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as  TOSHIBA Virtual Sound, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
