The executable file known as transcodingservice.exe is part of the software TiVo Desktop. TiVo Desktop is a software that allows the user to publish and share digital music, photos and recordings from the networked TiVo DVR to the computer and vice versa. The transcodingservice.exe enables TiVo to provide users a tool to be able to watch their favourite shows on TV whenever they want. The EXE file can also allow the users to connect to the Internet with the use of the home network so that it can display movies, music, photos, among others through the TV set. TiVo DVR is compatible with cable, satellite, antenna, HDTV and a regular TV. The transcodingservice.exe activates the features of TiVo Desktop. Such features include its ability to easily transfer recordings from the TiVo box to the computer, to view all photos from the digital library on the TV screen, and to gain control of digital music and play an entire collection on TV.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. transcodingservice.exe. is used by Tivo Desktop, If you shut down transcodingservice.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop transcodingservice.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Tivo Desktop, from your system.

Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
