The tppwrif.sys process is a SYS driver component resource included with other system drivers, some modular DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files, certain EXE program files, specific background process items and various associated components that are used by the firmware distributions and driver software packages of certain IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad laptops. The tppwrif.sys file is deployed as one of the system driver components of these associated IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad device models, and the tppwrif.sys file is placed in the system upon the installation of the firmware resources and driver software distributions of these IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad laptops. This also means the tppwrif.sys process is integrated into the installers of these firmware components and driver software distributions. The tppwrif.sys file is referenced by the system and the associated IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad firmware or driver software component whenever a user requests for access to certain functionalities that correspond to specific functionalities embedded in the tppwrif.sys file and its associated resources.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. tppwrif.sys. is used by IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad Firmware and Driver Software, If you shut down tppwrif.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
