The process file sysdown.exe is relevant to Compaq ProLiant servers that are installed with Windows NT4 server software. Based on what users have gathered regarding the file, it functions as a support tool for the server during instances where server fans have somehow stopped running, or have malfunctioned. During such cases, the file proceeds to close down the servers to prevent overheating. This entire procedure is programmed into a process known as HP ProLiant System Shutdown Service. The file has a general location of C:\Windows\System 32\sysdown.exe. The file runs as a Windows background service, with the startup name of “sysdown.” File version 1.2.0.0 has the following image hashes: MD5: E6E93F086DFA0EAD6185EA816C7B69D3 and SHA1: D1079AEF3F3D1F09FB2102BB3EB06A50F3DB6FDD. The size of the file is about 17,960 bytes. This is a critical system file for the server because it helps prevent disastrous effects of cooling loss due to malfunctioning server fans. The file is only applicable to computer servers. Single-user PCs have no need for this file, and if found on such a computer, users suggest removing the file because it could be a masked malware.
