The process that is related to the executable file symlcsvc.exe is typically called Symantec Core Component. This is a process that is part of the software for Norton Internet Security. This is not the main executable that launches the security applications of the software, but it is a component of the software that is required to run because it is the one responsible for making sure that your software license is valid, which in turn is necessary for your security software to run properly. An invalid software license will most likely mean that the AV software that was installed on your computer was an illegal copy, or what is usually called a pirated copy, and this could greatly endanger the health of your system. A pirated AV program protecting your PC may not have all the necessary components to fully protect your system; and you will not be able to install updates for your software because the updates will not recognize your copy of the AV software. You can find the file in the following path: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. symlcsvc.exe. is used by Symantec Core Component, If you shut down symlcsvc.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop symlcsvc.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Symantec Core Component, from your system.
