The soundmax.exe file is an executable process integrated with the other program files, modular resources and system drivers that are used and referenced by the firmware and driver software components of certain soundcards and audio chipsets from Analog Devices, which are bundled with some laptops and desktops from Hewlett Packard among other product manufacturers. The soundmax.exe process is specifically deployed as a component of the SoundMAX driver software application package, which is responsible for facilitating HD audio data processing among other functionalities related to the technologies built into supported audio chipset and soundcards from Analog Devices. The soundmax.exe process is integrated into the installer distributions of these Analog Devices firmware and driver software components. This also means upon the installation of these Analog Devices firmware and driver software components, the soundmax.exe process is installed in the system along with the other program files, modular components and system drivers deployed by these Analog firmware and driver software resources for the associated Analog Devices audio chipset and soundcard to perform its intended operations.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. soundmax.exe. is used by Analog Devices SoundMAX HD Audio Device Driver Module, If you shut down soundmax.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop soundmax.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Analog Devices SoundMAX HD Audio Device Driver Module, from your system.
