The file s3apphk.exe is known as the application S3 Video that is a tool installed alongside the drivers to the S3 Video output device to enable users to access additional configuration and diagnostics. S3 graphic cards support HD-DVD, DirectX 10.1, Blu-ray video playback and GPGPU acceleration for image processing using video color correction, video encoding and transcoding, and S3FotoPro. The output device such as LCD monitors, gas plasma monitors, and television display the soft copy of the text, video information, and graphics that is generated from the graphics card. The process s3apphk.exe enables the configuration of the video output device to enhance the display quality. The user is enabled by this process to configure the compression setting to ensure that the correct codec is employed, set the frame rate that controls the speed of playback in terms of frames per second, and adjust the bit rate or data rate that controls the size of the video file. Other settings that can be configured include the audio settings and the frame size for the video file.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. s3apphk.exe. is used by S3 Video, If you shut down s3apphk.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop s3apphk.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is S3 Video, from your system.
