What is  plugin-container.exe

The file plugin-container.exe executes an application of the same name, Plugin Container. This is a service from Mozilla for the Firefox Web browser. The application serves as storage for plugins, otherwise known as add-ons, needed by the Web browser so users can execute a number of Web-based applications, i.e. Adobe Flash, Shockwave and Acrobat Reader; as well as Apple Quicktime and Microsoft Silverlight. The process gives users a separate storage system dedicated specifically for the mentioned plugins so that in the event that one of the plugins crashes, your Firefox Web browser will not be affected. While this is a most useful tool, some users have found the file as having bugs, where the browser hangs or freezes, or was very slow in loading pages. These could be attributed to users’ encounters with the process where it was found to utilize 291.99 MB of RAM space. These negative side effects considerably affected their browsing experience with Firefox. Consequently, some users have disabled the file to prevent these from happening again.
