What is  nessusd.exe

Tenable Network Security has developed a software named Nessus Security Scanner. It contains the nessusd.exe file. The nessusd.exe file starts upon initialized and begins the functionalities of the Nessus Security Scanner application. The application provides a device that can audit a specified network from a distance and can identify if there are hackers and other malicious software infecting the network. It does give an assessment, but it will provide a report on the vulnerability of the system. The security scanner offers high speed discovery, configuration auditing, asset profiling, sensitive data recovery, patch management integration, and vulnerability analysis of the state of security. A computer systems faces different types of vulnerabilities such as those that allows a hacker to access confidential data, misconfiguration or missing patches, default passwords, denial of service against TCP/IP stack and preparation of PCI DSS audits. The Nessus application also provides more functionalities like using Microsoft Windows to check patch levels on computers and auditing passwords with the use of dictionary and brute force methods.

How can I stop nessusd.exe and should I?

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. nessusd.exe. is used by Nessus Security Scanner, If you shut down nessusd.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop nessusd.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Nessus Security Scanner, from your system.
