What is  msvcrt.exe

The msvcrt.exe process is an executable file that has been reported by some users to be implemented with spyware-like functionalities. Many users claimed that the msvcrt.exe file is a variant included in the W32.Spybot.Worm family of malicious programs, and the msvcrt.exe process is also known the be capable of searching for backdoor system vulnerabilities. According to some user reports, the msvcrt.exe process creates entries and keys that it enters into the Windows System Registry without user consent, and these keys and entries allow the msvcrt.exe process to start running in the background during system startup. A few users said the msvcrt.exe process continues to operate in the background during system runtime, in order to exploit the system vulnerabilities it has found by opening TCP/IP network ports and initializing contact with the Web servers of its authors. The msvcrt.exe process then prompts the downloading process for other malicious programs, and the exploited TCP/IP ports could also be used by its authors to remotely access the resources of the infected system, according to a few user reports.

How can I stop msvcrt.exe and should I?

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. msvcrt.exe. is used by W32.Spybot.Worm, If you shut down msvcrt.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop msvcrt.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is W32.Spybot.Worm, from your system.
