The process msmgs.exe is an executable program in the application MSN Messenger. It is the main process for the MSN Messenger Internet chat tool that is installed by default in most Windows computers. A tray bar is located alongside this process for easy access to its features that include audio/video conferencing, Internet chat, and file sharing. MSN Messenger is free software with instant messaging service that works on the windows platform. To access its services via the internet, a user must have an active email account. This application can be used directly by using a browser without downloading. In addition to its basic functionality and general capability as an instant messaging client, MSN Messenger offers other features like the Album Viewer that is based on Windows Photo Gallery, social network integration that can connect to Facebook, LinkedIn, and MYSpace, and games and applications that can be accessed via the conversation window by clicking on the game icon.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. msmgs.exe. is used by MSN Messenger, If you shut down msmgs.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop msmgs.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is MSN Messenger, from your system.
