Microsoft LifeCam firmware components and device driver utilities integrate the mscamsvc.exe process into the Windows-based system. Microsoft distributes hardware components like mouse devices, keyboards and Web cameras, and Microsoft LifeCam is a line of Web camera models that use the msbntray.exe file as an EXE resource process. This executable process is bundled with the firmware packages and driver software utilities of these external devices, which also means the mscamsvc.exe file is packaged into the installer distributions of these Microsoft LifeCam drivers and firmware components. During the installation process of these Microsoft LifeCam firmware distributions and drivers, the mscamsvc.exe process is placed in the Windows-based system. In order for the functionalities of these Microsoft LifeCam Web cameras to be correctly and completely integrated into the system upon user request, the mscamsvc.exe process assists these Microsoft LifeCam driver software components and firmware resources in communicating with the Windows system, certain built-in Windows programs and some installed third party applications along with the firmware utilities and drivers of other relevant hardware devices, chipsets and I/O ports equipped into the motherboard of the Windows-based computer.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. mscamsvc.exe. is used by Microsoft LifeCam Firmware/Driver Software, If you shut down mscamsvc.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop mscamsvc.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Microsoft LifeCam Firmware/Driver Software, from your system.
