The Nero Burning ROM software uses the mmc.dll file as one of its plug-in modules for implementing access functionalities to the data stored in multimedia cards that are connected to the Windows-based system. The Nero Burning ROM software is a Windows program classified as a multimedia disk authoring tool that was developed with a set of features for creating audio, video and data disks using various types of optical media, and there are also features embedded in this application for creating disk images and editing its content. The mmc.dll file is a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) module that can accommodate simultaneous referencing requests from multiple applications because of the program logic compilation specifications integrated into the source code stored in this DLL module. The mmc.dll file is referenced by the Nero Burning ROM software whenever the user intends to include certain files and folders from a connected multimedia memory card in a Nero CD/DVD/Blue-Ray data, audio or video disk burning project, or in a CD/DVD/data/video disk image project. The mmc.dll file is bundled into the installer distribution packages of the Nero Burning ROM software, which also means the mmc.dll file is placed in the system upon the installation of the Nero Burning ROM program.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. mmc.dll. is used by Nero Burning ROM, If you shut down mmc.dll, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop mmc.dll, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Nero Burning ROM, from your system.
