What is  hxdef100.exe

The file hxdef100.exe is known as the Hacker Defender Hxdef Rootkit. Hxdef is rootkit for Windows NT, 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP, but may also work on the latest NT based system. The rootkit that infects the system rewrites some memory segments in all running processes. Rewriting some of the basic modules in the running processes cause changes in the process behavior, but does not affect the stability of the system of running processes. The rootkit Hxdef manages to hide its presence in other applications by using some of the lower layers of the operating system, such as undocumented operating system functions. The rootkit maintains privileged access to the computer while maintaining its intrusion into the system a secret. It has administrator access to the system and can continue to modify software that might otherwise be used to detect or circumvent it. Hxdef uses a configuration that allows its creator to specify what needs to be hidden from the infected system, and that includes files and folders, processes, services and their associated registry entries, and registry keys, names and values.
