What is  hh.exe

The hh.exe process is also called the Microsoft Compiled HTML Help and was created by Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft Compiled HTML Help is an online help format from Microsoft proprietary. Considered as a successor to Microsoft WinHelp upon the release of Windows 98, it is now supported in Windows 7. The Microsoft Compiled HTML Help is sent as a binary file with the .chm. This file has a set of HTML files, an index file and a hyperlinked table of contents. This process is the Windows’ platform standard help system. Authors and users can use the HTML Help to make online help for a software application or to make a website or content for a multimedia title. Developers and creators can use the HTML Help API to be able to program a host application or to link up context-sensitive help to its application. The HTML Help can be used for a massive range of applications, such as interactive books, electronic newsletters and training guides.

How can I stop hh.exe and should I?

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. hh.exe. is used by HTML Help, If you shut down hh.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop hh.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is HTML Help, from your system.
