What is  ext.exe

The file ext.exe, known as Microsoft Internet Countermeasures Framework (Microsoft) belongs to software FCI. File Classification Infrastructure (FCI) is software solution for the management of storage resources and data protection. The FCI solution that is included in Windows Server 2008 is designed to help organizations manage their data by providing interfaces for file classification, automating file management processes predefined policies, and exposing a framework that can be used to build end-to-end data management solution. Program users can define the classification properties, develop custom extensions, and define automatic classification policies, rules, and triggers. It can be considered as a remedy to the lack of classification syndrome, and can be used to address the user-based classification that often results in documents in file share folders that are not properly classified. Through this infrastructure, users can decide which data is to be retained and where it should be stored to improve data management.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. ext.exe. is used by FCI, If you shut down ext.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
