The etdctrl.exe process or the ETD Control Center is a part of the ELAN Smart-Pad and is owned by the ELAN Microelectronic Corporation. ELAN Microelectronic Corporation is an IC provider and designer of PC Peripheral ICs and 8-bit microcontrollers; this application is used by touchpad solutions for notebooks and allows the user the possibility and flexibility to use multi-finger movements on the touch pad, which is similarly used on a smartphone screen. Smart pad (or multi-finger touch pad) is an NB input device. Its support of multi-finger touch pad and gestures makes it slightly different from a normal touchpad as it lets the user be able to interact with his or her notebook system more efficiently and intuitively. The etdctrl.exe file comes pre-installed on certain laptops such as some Asus laptops, which was developed by ELANTECH Devices Corporation. Certain multi-touch functions are accessible with the etdctrl.exe file such as zooming, rotating and scrolling pictures with the use of the touchpad.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. etdctrl.exe. is used by ETD Control Center , If you shut down etdctrl.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop etdctrl.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is ETD Control Center , from your system.
