the fileepgservice.exe, known as EPG Service Module, belongs to software Hauppauge WinTV Infrared Remote. The Infrared Remote (IR) for WinTV allows the user to control the WinTV application and the radio application for the WinTV card with FM tuner from a comfortable distance. The IR Remote has three components that consist of the IR Remote transmitter, IR Remote receiver, and the IR software. The transmitter sends infrared signals to the receiver, which is connected to the WinTV card with a cable. The software is the program that runs in the background that interprets the infrared signals. The software is automatically installed from the WinTV setup menu. When the PC is booted, the WinTV's remote software is automatically launched and the remote icon can be seen in the device tray. The remote control button functions include TV, which starts or closes the WinTV application, channel up (CH+), channel down (CH-), volume up (VOL+), volume down (VOL-), the numbers 0 to 9 that are used to enter the channel number, and Minimize.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. epgservice.exe. is used by Hauppauge WinTV Infrared Remote, If you shut down epgservice.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop epgservice.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Hauppauge WinTV Infrared Remote, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.
