The file emmadevicemgmt.exe, known as Emma Device Management Service, belongs to software Emma Device Management by Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. Emma is a new flash tool for Sony's Xperia devices with unlocked bootloaders. Sony Experia is the family of Sony smartphones and tablets that have been manufactured since 2008 and accounts for more than half of the company's mobile phone sales. The file emmadevicemgmt.exe executes when the Emma flash tool is attached to the Xperia device. Emma is in beta or test stage, and users are given the option to revert to Sony stock ROMs. The Emma flash device is initially available only for Xperia S, Xperia arc, and Xperia arc S, but may be made available for other devices in the future. Emma is a flash tool that enables users to flash standard Sony software on the supported Xperia device, provided the phone features an unlocked bootloader. Flashing erases the user data and content, so users might want to create a backup before proceeding with flashing the handset.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. emmadevicemgmt.exe. is used by Emma Device Management, If you shut down emmadevicemgmt.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop emmadevicemgmt.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Emma Device Management, from your system.
