The file emdevice.sys, known as USB 28xx WDM Driver, belongs to software ConvertX (version AV100U AV Capture) from eMPIA Technology. ConvertX (version AV100U) is supported by the USB 28xx WDM driver, is software for the Plextor USB 2.0 AV 100U device, which is a Digital Video Converter for the PC. This device features a real-time software Encoder USB 2.0 interface, and the user is provided with CD/ DVD creation software that can be installed in the PC. It works in the 32-bit version of the Windows operating system and once the provided software is installed, it enables the user to create personalized CDs and DVDs. The Plextor USB 2.0 AV 100U Digital Video Converter is a palm-sized device that connects to any video source such as a camcorder, VCR, CD/VDV player, or a PC. It facilitates video capture into the MPEG-1/VCD format and the MPEG-2/DVD format through the real-time software encoder. The installed software converts video into high-quality DivX format that allows users to send video files over the Internet and play videos on enabled cell phones or PDAs.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. emdevice.sys. is used by ConvertX, If you shut down emdevice.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop emdevice.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is ConvertX, from your system.
