Called by the process name BOINC System Tray for Windows, or BOINC System Tray, the boinctray.exe file is a component of BOINC client, which is a communication software product that is developed by Space Sciences Laboratory. As what is described on its service term or filename, boinctray.exe is the launcher that is related to the system tray of the application, or notifies the user status and other information of the program BOINC client. This is the module that informs the user any relevance associated with the functions, performance or general status of the software within the computer system. The boinctray.exe file may not be an essential process for the stability and security of the Windows computer system, but it is a digitally signed module (GridRepublic - VeriSign Time Stamping Services Signer - G2) that needs to load and run, and must not be stopped or deleted from the registry.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. boinctray.exe. is used by BOINC client, If you shut down boinctray.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop boinctray.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is BOINC client, from your system.
