The awrtrd.sys file is the process called Driver for AD-Watch Real-Time Registry Protection that is used by the application Ad-Watch Registry Protection developed by Lavasoft AB. This process file is a driver for Windows. A driver is a part of a program that can interact with connected or hardware devices. It accesses internals of hardware and operating systems directly. You can access the driver under Services on Windows Control Panel. The application is not visible to the user. Ad-Watch is an add-on for real-time monitor that is included in Ad-Aware SE Pro and Plus package. Ad-Watch silently runs in the background while keeping watch for malware that is threatening to infect the system. It catches the malware before it gets into the system. It also blocks popup activities. You can configure Ad-Watch to block tracing cookies on Ad-Ware SE Pro and Ad-Aware SE Plus. The awrtrd.sys file has a digital signature by Lavasoft AB with certificate issued by VeriSign Time Stamping Services Signer – G2.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. awrtrd.sys. is used by Ad-Watch Registry Protection, If you shut down awrtrd.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop awrtrd.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Ad-Watch Registry Protection, from your system.
