The atray.exe process file is required for the operation of Active Tray Utility. It is the program’s main file. As an executable file, it runs automatically upon startup. You can also operate it manually when required. The process can be found in the list of processes on the Windows Task Manager. The file consumes about 131 Kb of RAM or Random Access Memory. The atray.exe file is not related to Windows operating system though it compatible runs with the program. It does not have any conflict with Windows applications and drivers while operating. Active Tray is a hotkey manager and tray utility launcher. It gives access to favorite programs, URL’s, fodlers, documents and other computer-related tasks. It enables quick navigation through user files and allows you to add several important time savers to your system tray. Active Tray Utility is developed by Divcom. The common path for atray.exe is C:\WINDOWS\system32.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. atray.exe. is used by Active Tray Utility, If you shut down atray.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop atray.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Active Tray Utility, from your system.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Active Tray Utility, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
