The executable aswregsvr.exe file is a component of avast! Antivirus software. The process that it installs is known as avast! Regsvr. As for what the process does exactly, this is a bit unclear. According to users however, they deem it as a necessary file to have running as a background task because it was installed by their AV software. The file has not been found to behave erratically on the computer so the general recommendation is to allow it to run. The file can normally be found in its default directory of C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\aswregsvr.exe. There are several versions of the file. The file version that gets installed on your computer usually depends on the specific avast! AV software that you have installed on your PC. File sizes therefore, also vary. File size can be as little as 21.5 KB or as large as 74.9 KB. Inn-between sizes are about 38.5 KB and 46.7 KB.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. aswregsvr.exe. is used by avast! Regsvr, If you shut down aswregsvr.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop aswregsvr.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is avast! Regsvr, from your system.
