What is  agrsmmsg.exe

The process SoftModem Assistant is installed with the executable agrsmmsg.exe. This is the device driver for IBM AMR modem. This is usually pre-installed in IBM Thinkpads. The file is necessary for your modem to work properly. The file is also associated with Agere SoftModem Messaging Applet from Agere Systems. For this application, the file configures the soft modem installed on your PC. The soft modem meanwhile provides support for your modem hardware to enable it to function. In other words, the file is also necessary for your modem to work. The file has a common path of C:\Windows\agrsmmsg.exe. Typical file sizes for the process are from 85.7 KB to 86.3 KB. Usually, the file also installs when you update the software for your modem. So there would be instances where the user is unaware about the file because it has not made an appearance yet in the system; but when updates are installed, the file will replace the old version of the modem driver. Thus, you may find your old driver file renamed to agrsmmsg.exe.
