What is  afwserv.exe

Avast Internet Security has a firewall application that the file afwserv.exe installs, when you install the software for the Internet Security program. The firewall monitors inbound and outbound activities on the Internet, keeping an eye out for threats that could put the system at risk. The firewall service is often located in the folder, C:\Program Files\Avast Software\Avast\afwserv.exe. The file’s average paged memory is 6 MB. It also has an average committed memory usage of 88.05 MB, and this can go up to 92.81 MB. There were reports made by some users that the file takes up too memory, resulting in PC freezes, or hangs. There were also occasions cited where the file takes precedence over other processes running alongside the application. Consequently, a number of users decided to disable the file, and only utilize the firewall service that came with their OS. The file is considered harmless, owing to the fact that it has not been connected to any malicious software, or virus.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. afwserv.exe. is used by Avast Firewall Service, If you shut down afwserv.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
