The aexnsagent.exe process is also known as the Altiris Agent and it is a part of the Altiris Client/Server Management Suites. This program is used in several corporate environment’s systems management. The main responsibility of this software is to manage software patches, remote assistance, software delivery, computer software/hardware inventory and other remote client management capabilities. This program is now owned by Symantec. A Software Inventory, Hardware Inventory and Serial Number Inventory runs are performed with the default installation of the Altiris Agent on the endpoint. This is done on a regular basis. These scans are performed to identify installed software in order to perform patches and help guarantee license compliance. However, the main issue when the default settings are used is that the Software Inventory will repeat execution over every file on the user’s file system, which is done as quickly as possible. There is an option of “Slow Mode” when this happens.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. aexnsagent.exe. is used by Altiris Agent, If you shut down aexnsagent.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop aexnsagent.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Altiris Agent, from your system.
