Windows Update AutoUpdate Client is the service name of the file wuauclt1.exe, which is an instance of Windows process, and a component of the application Windows Update, which is part of the Microsoft Windows Operating System, a product known to be developed by Microsoft Corporation. The software Windows Update provides “updates” for the Windows OS, as well as other programs and processes, like the Windows Media Player, Microsoft Office, the Internet Explorer, and even Windows Live applications. Updates provided by this software also include security and critical updates that can be used to further protect the computer, the different applications and files stored on the folders of the Windows system. A user is able to access and configure the settings of updates via the Control Panel if his or her computer is installed with certain Windows operating systems, which include Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008. Regardless, the wuauclt1.exe file is among those essential components that enable this software to work and give updates.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. wuauclt1.exe. is used by Windows Update or Microsoft Windows, If you shut down wuauclt1.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
